Packaging Buying Guide for Bakers

Choosing packaging starts with what you are packing, your portion size and how the order will travel. Use this guide to compare options at The Baker’s Plug, then check the selected product variant for exact dimensions, quantity and what is included.

Cookie pouches: check the size and pack count

For individually packed cookies, compare the pouch dimensions with your finished cookie, allowing space for its thickness and the closure.

Cookie Pouch Pack options include Plain 10cm × 10cm (100 pieces), Plain 14cm × 14cm (100 pieces), and Loaded Plain 8.5cm × 23cm × 6cm (50 pieces). Pack quantities vary by option, so choose the variant before calculating your order.

Boxes: measure the finished bake

Measure your bake with its decorations, liner or board in place. Check the box’s length, width and height, and leave clearance so decorations do not touch the lid.

For cupcakes, Cupcake Box options include 1, 4, 6 and 12 cupcakes. Check the selected option’s dimensions and insert details against your cupcake size before ordering.

PET jars: compare capacity and shape

Loaded PET Jar options include 100ml, 150ml, 200ml, 250ml, 350ml, 450ml, 800ml and 1000ml.

There are short and long 250ml options, so capacity alone does not tell you the jar’s shape.

Choose a capacity that allows room for your intended portion, toppings and closure. A millilitre capacity is not the same as the weight of food it holds. Confirm the exact jar dimensions and whether the lid is included on the product listing.

Glass jars: plan for handling and transport

When comparing glass jars, check the opening, capacity, lid details and dimensions against your intended contents. Plan protective outer packaging and separate jars so they do not knock together during transport.

Before buying in bulk

  • Check whether the listing is for one piece or a pack, and confirm the number of pieces in your selected variant.
  • Divide the pack price by the number of pieces to compare packaging cost per item.
  • Calculate how many pieces you need for your orders, with an allowance for testing and handling.
  • Test a small quantity with your actual product, label and delivery packaging before committing to a large order.
  • Do not assume packaging is oven-safe, microwave-safe, freezer-safe, leakproof or suitable for hot filling unless the specific product information confirms it.
